Many
of you saw various athletes at the summer Olympics in London wearing colorful
athletic tape. Swimmers,
triathletes, soccer players, beach volleyball players, and others were all seen
with "Kinesiotape" on various regions of their body.
The
practical benefits of Kinesiotape are that Kinesiotape will last 2-3 days on
average, it won't fall off after showering or sweating from athletic activity,
and athletes can experience full range of motion compared to conventional
athletic tape.
Kinesio
Tape is applied to various soft tissue injuries of the fascia, ligaments,
tendons, and muscles in the areas of the legs, arms, spine, and torso. General indications for Kinesio Taping
are soft tissue swelling, spasm, and poor muscle firing.
The
most common soft tissue athletic injuries treated by Kinesio Tape are:
- Ankle Sprain-Strains
- Shin Splints
- Calf and Achilles Sprain-Strains
- Knee Injuries
- Quad-Hamstring-Groin Sprain-Strains
- Hip and IT Sprain-Strains
- Cervical, Thoracic, and Lumbar Sprain-Strains
- Shoulder Impingement and Rotator Cuff Sprain-Strains
- Tennis and Golfers Elbow Sprain-Strains
- Carpal Tunnel and Sciatic Nerve Entrapments
So if you are, or have, a student athlete that is
experiencing any of the above injuries, consider giving Kinesio Tape a try. Our offices have had great success
treating patients with Kinesio Tape verses traditional athletic tape. Call
