The Myth:
The average person should drink eight glasses of water a day.
The
Truth:
You need to drink enough water to replace the fluids you lose
daily through sweating, elimination, and other bodily functions. The
amount of water needed depends on the amount of water lost and the
person in question. Most scientists agree that people lose up to 10
cups of water per day. You can get up to 4 cups replenished per day
from your food intake. That leaves 6 cups that you would need to
drink. If you exercise heavily, you probably need to drink more. And
since most people err on the side of not drinking enough water, it
doesn't hurt to over hydrate.
