Nutritional Counseling - What to Expect

Do you have questions about the supplements you are taking? Are you unsure of whether they are the right ones for you? Are you looking to lose weight?

Dr. Laura Kemps' nutritional counseling services may be right for you. Do you have a specific condition that needs to be addressed?. Did you know conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, asthma, irritable bowel syndrome, headaches and eczema  can all be helped through changes in diet and specific supplementation?

What sets Dr. Kemps' services apart is that she treats people on an individual basis, and puts together a specific treatment plan of diet changes and supplementation based on blood work and other tests, as well as a thorough history taking and examination.  To learn more, here are some frequently asked questions regarding her services.

What can I expect on my first visit?

You will receive a 14 page health history to be completed prior to your first visit. The first visit is one hour long, and includes a review of your health history your goals for nutritional therapy.  Dr. Kemps then does a nutrition examination, looking at blood pressure, reflexes, skin, hair, nails, an abdominal exam, and any other tests she deems appropriate.  Typically, she then puts those findings together with any recent blood work or other tests you may have had done with your medical physician. Dr. Kemps may also recommend additional tests, which can range from more lab work with your medical provider to other  testing such as adrenal function testing, food allergy testing,  stool analysis, and others.  She then meets with you in one to two weeks when all the tests have been completed to go over her findings, called the "report of findings".

What is in the report of findings?

The report of findings, typically on the second visit, addresses your specific health goals as well as the problems Dr. Kemps found on your first visit.  It is a specific, individualized treatment plan of diet and lifestyle changes as well as supplementation to get you to your health goals.  Typically after the second meeting, you meet with Dr. Kemps once per month so she can assess your progress and trouble shoot any problems you may be having with the treatment plan.  These visits typically are 15-30 minutes each time.

What are the costs involved?

Dr. Kemp’s nutrition services are done on a cash basis as insurance rarely, if ever, covers nutrition services through a chiropractor.  The fee is $25 per 15 minute increment, so the first visit is $100.  Report of findings is an additional charge of $75.  Monthly visits then range from $25-$50 depending on how much time she spends with you.  Supplements purchased are in addition to this fee.

What if I have more than one condition/problem I want treated?

Dr. Kemps is trained to look at all the body systems as a whole, so you would be the perfect candidate for her services.  She will take into account all the different body systems and how they work together to put together the optimal nutrition schedule for you.

What are her qualifications?

Dr. Kemps has been a chiropractor since the year 2000.  She went to the University of Western States for her chiropractic degree and studied nutrition extensively while in chiropractic college. She was certified by the state of Wisconsin in nutritional counseling in 2007.  She completed a two year national board certification in clinical nutrition in 2013. She is the only Diplomate on the Chiropractic Board of Clinical Nutrition (D.C.B.C.N.) in the Fox Valley area.

What if all I want to do is a detoxification/cleanse?

Dr. Kemps needs to screen you to make sure you are a good candidate. This involves filling out the health history and a  15-30 minute appointment.  We will  then order the proper detoxification kit for you, and can get you started.
